Muñecas del Tiempo
In this series of six dolls, each figurine encapsulates a facet of my personal journey and identity. One doll captures my rebellious teenage spirit and enduring love for nightlife, while another pays homage to my lifelong passion for anime and cosplay. I drew inspiration from Sailor Moon, who embodies femininity, courage, and friendship. Another doll embodies the struggle of my childhood that was marked by a relentless desire to blend in and avoid attention. This stemmed from the isolation I endured as the tallest girl in class. Additionally, one doll represents the burden of responsibility as the eldest sister, while another symbolizes the triumphs and challenges of breaking new ground as a first-generation college graduate and academic achiever. Lastly, one doll serves as a reflection of my evolving relationship with my genetic heritage- my mother's frizzy hair- which was once a source of embarrassment but now I embrace.
Throughout the exhibition, viewers are invited to engage with the dolls, playing and interacting with them to explore the layers of meaning embedded within each piece. In the gallery space, two hand sculptures serve as platforms where viewers can place different dolls, creating dynamic and ever-changing arrangements that reflect the complexity of personal identity and human experience.
